Pubs & Restaurants

There are 3 good Pubs for eating out locally & a couple further afield which we would recommend.

Local Pubs

The Star Inn at Weaverthorpe is a Family Friendly Pub with a great atmosphere. Julian & Rachel serve a good selection of food, some great beers and also a good selection of wines and spirits.

The Blue Bell Country Inn also at Weaverthorpe offers a fine dining experience with great food, & great service. Weekends are busy & booking is essential, but lunches are good value & mid week evenings almost always have availability.

The Triton Inn at Sledmere is a Traditional Country Inn which forms part of Sledmere Estate. They serve a good selection of Sandwich Platters at lunch time & good sized portions of traditional Pub Food.

Other Recommended Pubs

The Anvil Inn at Sawdon (14m) Characterful Country Inn serving an eclectic mix of dishes made using only the freshest locally sourced ingredients.

The Blacksmith’s Arms at Westow (13m) is a lovely little country pub just off the A64. Why not call in here on your way to or from York? Their lunchtime sandwiches are served with uniquely presented chips & salad.

The Fairfax Arms at Gilling East (23m) is a bit off the beaten track, but worth a visit if you are out in The Howardian Hills.

The Fox & Hounds Country Inn at Sinnington (24m) This 18th Century Coaching inn is now a well established country inn & restaurant with a reputation for good food & service.

The Pipe & Glass Inn at South Dalton (20m) Chef James Mackenzie was awarded East Yorkshire's only Michelin Star in 2010 & has retained it ever since. Unpretentious in style it retains the atmosphere of a country pub while serving great food with traditional Yorkshire hospitality.

The Wellington Inn at Lund (18m) is a proper pub serving good food, real ales & fine wines. It offers dining in a relaxed atmosphere.

Farm Bakery

Glebe Farm Bakery at Potter Brompton is also just off the A64, but this time heading towards Scarborough. I often leave my car at Sherburn & walk across the fields for one of Sally’s delicious lunches or teas & then walk back.

If you are planning a day out to Scampston Walled Garden, don’t miss out on the fantastic bakery & patisserie that is The Farmhouse Bakery. Their Hot Chocolate made from real chocolate is divine, & you will surely be tempted to take home something from their selection of breads, cakes & pastries.

World Class Coffee

At Leoni's Coffee House in Malton, world class Barista Simon serves great coffee & a selection of delicious ciabattas & panninis. Or why not try a Malton Fat Rascal?

Vintage Afternoon Tea

When visiting Pickering take a detour to Middleton Post Office Tea Parlour & step back in time. The vintage style tea room boasts embroidered table cloths, vintage china, & proper loose leaf tea (no tea bags here) served in silver teapots. Enjoy an Afternoon Tea with freshly made sandwiches, homemade cakes, & delicious scones. The 2 ladies are so attentive & everything is beautifully presented. I can guarantee you will not be disappointed!
